Are you a lawyer or business with a civil or commercial dispute connected to Switzerland? Dealing with transnational or even Swiss law can be challenging, especially for a single case. You may not want to dig deep into the specifics, but you also don't want to be steering in the dark. That's where a bit of guidance can be helpful.
Welcome to my blog, where I share overviews on Swiss law and cross-border legal issues. Many of the topics here are inspired by the common questions I encounter from businesses and fellow lawyers who deal with a Swiss case for the first time. Whether you need to understand the Swiss court system, basic procedure, or legal costs, you'll find useful information here. And if you have more questions, I'm always open to a discussion—who knows, we might even solve a problem or two together.
…and Its Author
I’m Andri Ganzoni, the author of this blog. My legal journey began over 16 years ago as a trainee at what I still consider Switzerland’s premier business law firm. Back then, I was immersed in an environment of top-notch training, large cases, and collaboration with some of the brightest minds in the field. It was an exciting time, and I was on the path to a career in Switzerland’s version of “big law.”
However, as I considered my long-term career, I found myself drawn to a different path—one that allowed me to align my professional life more closely with my personal values. Inspired by Patrick J. Schiltz’s thought-provoking article, “On Being a Happy, Healthy, and Ethical Member of an Unhappy, Unhealthy, and Unethical Profession,” I chose to forge my own way.
Over a decade ago, I founded my own small law firm in Basel, a rather quiet Swiss town. My focus since then has been on assisting foreign colleagues and businesses with dispute resolution and cross-border issues involving Switzerland. This niche has allowed me to work with clients from diverse geographical and legal backgrounds, which I’ve found to be immensely rewarding.
While the perks of a larger team and a prestigious office in a major international firm was tempting, I’ve discovered great value in building a practice that prioritizes meaningful client relationships, high-quality service, and a balanced life. Practicing law on my terms has given me the freedom to spend more time with my family, engage with my community, and serve my clients from a place of genuine passion and integrity.
Though my firm may not appear in any formal rankings, I believe that the discreet and focused environment I’ve created allows me to offer exceptional legal services to those who need them most.
Feel free to connect with me and —just mention you found me through this blog!
